The Older Drivers Forum (ODF) is inviting mature drivers, their families and anyone supporting older people to join our 60th free community webinar. Autumn can bring some of the most challenging driving conditions of the year. Shorter days, low sun and glare, heavy rain, wet leaves, fog and the first frosts can all make familiar journeys more demanding. The webinar asks a simple question: we make sure our cars receive an MOT when required – but when did we last give ourselves a Driver MOT? In this webinar we will encourage drivers to think about three areas – the Driver, the Vehicle and the Journey – and whether there are one or two simple things they could do to make their driving safer, more comfortable and more confident this autumn. Special guest contributor is Mike Addis, IAM RoadSmart Examiner and Advanced Driving Instructor. Mike has undertaken many of the Mature Driver Reviews facilitated by ODF and will share some of the driving themes emerging from these sessions.
The webinar will include practical advice on: • Eyesight, mobility, medication and driving confidence • Driving safely in heavy rain, including aquaplaning and flooding • Preparing a vehicle for autumn • Planning journeys around weather, road conditions and daylight • Mature Driver Reviews, what happens and what drivers can learn from them • Useful practical tips and resources to make autumn driving easier and safer.
